Preschool Corner May 30 - June 6, 2010

We are new to Preschool Corner!  Dinosaur Girl is 4 years 5 months old (see her pic on my sidebar).  I've just begun working with her after MUCH self-doubt and deliberation.  I work full time (as an RN, which means i'm out of the house 3 days a week).  However, she has Type 1 Diabetes and wears an insulin pump, making her not the average preschooler.  I'm simply not ready to entrust her care to anyone else, and we truly cannot afford the preschools that are willing to take her on and learn the diabetes management (so far, they are hundreds per month).

So...I guess we'd call this our first official week!  I really don't have supplies yet, just winging it with what I have on hand and will try to slowly accumulate other stuff.

Here we are using Number Dot Cards (a printable from Confessions of a Homeschooler).  I have all 10 printed, but we barely made it to #5 - she was quite whiny today.  First we counted the dots, then placed a foam sticker of her choice on each dot, then she matched the number with one of our Melissa and Doug magnetic numbers.  Once she finished all 5, we transferred them to the fridge (see below).

She then wanted to work in her wipe off Colors and Shapes book (purchased at Target) using wipeboard markers.  She colored stuff for a long time.  We didn't really follow the instructions, but I tried to reinforce color recognition at each opportunity.
She also spent quite awhile with her Leapfrog reader and Cat in the Hat book.  She loves my IPOD touch and spent a long time on the Shape Builder app!

Tuesday, 6/1 (no pics today - kids have the camera at school)

Today, she easily did the clothespin number cards from Childcare Land {dot} com (in their May 2010, Free printables section).  We only did numbers 1-10 though.  She also easily mastered the clothespins and found them pretty interesting!  We practiced counting by using her Little Pet Shop pets (she has about 15).

She did 2 more pages in her wipe-off Colors and Shapes book that just involved color matching.  She was independent with these but struggles a bit to draw lines - and gets very resistant when I try to show her how to hold the marker properly.

Lastly, I printed her, Monkey girl, and The Underdog a Dinosaur on colored paper.  They then each decorated their dinosaurs with sequins, googly eyes, beads, wood shapes, and feathers.  Dino girl really liked her dinosaur, but wasn't so much into decorating it.  She has difficulty squeezing the glue bottle - need to work on motor stuff more.  Monkey Girl, however, was completely into it - she has no trouble with the glue bottle!  Even 10 year old Underdog enjoyed herself.  She's been hanging around a lot during their "homework" time - before long, I'll have her doing stuff too!

Wednesday - Friday -> Mom is working....we'll begin again Saturday evening!
